Course description

Presented by E3 Eco Group, Einar Halbig will offer real time examples, showing how builders are achieving Step Code Levels 2 and 3.
You have probably heard about the “Step Code” by now, but perhaps are not clear about when it will take effect and how it might change how you approach house construction.

This seminar will provide background information on the BC Provincial Step Code, and also will show how the Step Code applies to a particular house we’ll look at as a case study.  We will see how certain combinations of envelope upgrades and changes to the mechanical system will affect the Step Code metrics for this house, and how that relates to other houses.  We will also review the air tightness requirements of Step Code and provide recommendations of how best to reach those targets.  By the end you should have a much better idea of what Step Code will mean to you and how you might reach Step Code levels.

Take-aways:

  • Understand what Step Code is, and what buildings it applies to
  • Understand the Step Code metrics
  • Understand how particular upgrades affect Step Code metrics
  • Understand air barriers, airtightness testing and how to achieve the Step Code requirements for air tightness
